PROGRAM INFORMATION

Extensive research has shown that children learn best through play. Play at every stage of development improves a child's IQ, social-emotional growth, learning, and academic performance. Munchkin Academy is a play-based (child-centered) preschool, meaning that much of our learning comes from intentionally planned and developmentally appropriate activities. Our activities are designed to adequately nurture the emotional and intellectual growth of our kids. Our themes, topics, and skills that we address are aligned with the Kansas Early Learning Standards. Through stimulating activities and hands-on learning opportunities, young children are free to develop into bright young minds.

Here at Munchkin Academy the children participate daily in movement play, object play, imaginative play, social play, storytelling, and creative play, which all have separate and distinctive benefits for a young child's growing body, social sensitivity, and developing brain. We provide opportunities for young children to engage in unstructured play, explore their surroundings, and interact with peers. Our emphasis is on fostering social skills, developing fine and gross motor skills, and promoting sensory experiences.

While we have plenty of time each day spent making forts, painting, climbing, mixing playdough, building large towers, pretending we're flying through space, grocery shopping, or stopping by the cafe for some hot chocolate, we start each session with circle time and our daily lesson. At circle time we discuss and learn about our current theme as well as sing songs and read books that relate to it. We have 26 bi-weekly themes that introduce children to advanced science topics at an early age, preparing them for a lifetime of discovery. The science topics include zoology, botany, ecology, astronomy, geology, and physics.

We accept children ages 2.5 - 5 years old. All children must be up-to-date on their immunizations in order to attend.
